Music can say something you can't say in conversation.....

....but you can say it in a song in a way that connects with people. You can express emotions, or complex and often painful memories - in a positive way, in a non-confrontational way. Hans Zimmer said, "When you were a kid, they teach you to use simple words, and don't get technical. So don't make a technical conversation about an A minor seventh chord with augmented and diminished. Or get nerdy and I go, ooh I want to go use a Moog 55 because yadayada. Sometimes it's just about the sound, and sometimes it's about a SIMPLE chord progression."


Here are some secrets to creating emotions in sound for film. I call it the Hollywood Chord Progressions. Try them out yourself, and let me know if you agree.
